以9億8750萬美金票房高居全球影史最賣座動畫片第3名的【獅子王】，劇情描述：在非洲的獅子王國，小獅子辛巴的父王木法沙被叔叔刀疤殺害並篡奪王位，深受打擊的辛巴只能選擇流亡，他在狐獴丁滿和疣豬彭彭的開導，還有母獅娜娜與狒狒拉飛奇的鼓舞之下，勇敢面對命運與責任，終於推翻刀疤暴政。

本片的歌曲由「阿拉丁」歌詞創作家Tim Rice協同全英音樂獎傑出貢獻獎得主Elton John共同執筆，配樂由當時剛完成「分離世界」、「小子當自強」等兩部南非背景電影，日後以「蝙蝠俠」系列電影叱吒風雲的音樂大師Hans Zimmer擔綱創作，同時邀請南非歌手Lebo M.、「捍衛戰警」音樂家Mark Mancina參與編曲。眾人結合充滿大自然生命力的非洲音樂、磅礡視野的管弦樂與觸動心弦的流行搖滾樂，創作出榮獲奧斯卡、金球獎與葛萊美獎的主題曲"Can You Feel The Love Tonight"，同時也獲得奧斯卡與金球獎最佳原創音樂，還有入圍奧斯卡提名的"Circle Of Life"、"Hakuna Matata"等歌曲。電影原聲帶蟬連全美流行專輯榜10週冠軍，全美銷售達1000萬張，美國唱片工會頒發鑽石唱片銷售認證，是全美音樂史上最暢銷的動畫電影原聲帶。

迪士尼在2014年啟動涵蓋官方粉絲俱樂部網站、巡迴演出與12張定名為「Walt Disney Records The Legacy Collection」的經典原聲帶週年紀念發行的D23（*華特迪士尼在1923年創立製片廠）系列活動。【獅子王】電影原聲帶20週年紀念盤是D23系列活動的首張發行，雙CD內容包含電影原聲帶、之前未曾發行過的30分鐘電影音樂，同時邀請參與過「無敵破壞王」的迪士尼動畫工作室的視覺研發藝術家Lorelay Bove進行全新的美術設計包裝，還有製片人Don Hahn與音樂家Hans Zimmer撰寫的創作歷程（*英文）。
