第一次公開演出前才將團名命名為Japan的英倫新浪潮樂團，在1974-1982年間走紅，卻於音樂事業登上高峰時解散。1991年以Rain Tree Crow之名重返樂壇，發行同名專輯之後，團員再度各奔東西。主唱David Sylvian音樂風格極為寬廣，他能自由融合Jazz、Avant-garde、Ambient、Electronic、Progressive Rock等元素，堪稱樂壇的百變才子。

1980年發行的第4張專輯【Gentlemen Take Polaroids】， 首次於主流廠Virgin Records旗下問世，交付現已退休的John Punter（*Roxy Music、Nazareth）製作，是元老吉他手Rob Dean參與的最後一張作品。獲得AllMusic 4顆星、Smash Hits雜誌(8/10)優評，推出“Gentlemen Take Polaroids”和“Nightporter”兩首登榜單曲。

★【Oil On Canvas畫布上的油彩】：

於1983年推出的【Oil On Canvas】是樂團解散後才發行的唯一現場收音特輯，空降英國金榜第5名，獲得一枚金唱片銷售認證，寫下出道以來最佳商業成績。除了回顧多首暢銷曲之外，還特別創作“Oil On Canvas”、“Voices Raised In Welcome, Hands Held In Prayer”以及“Temple Of Dawn”…等三首錄音室演奏曲。
