1962年3月至1965年6月間，英國BBC電台播出了超過275次的披頭四現場演唱錄音，其中包括在每週帶狀播出的歌唱節目「Pop Goes The Beatles」及「Saturday Club」所進行的演出。1963那年披頭四在BBC電台的表演更多達39場；他們甚至曾經在1963年7月16日一天之內，以不到7個小時的時間為3集的「Pop Goes The Beatles」節目錄製了18首歌。披頭四在BBC sessions中共演唱過88首不同的歌曲，可以說是披頭四為祖國英國獻唱的最珍貴音樂紀錄。
1994年，金牌製作人George Martin親自挑選披頭四在1962-1965年以現場演唱方式為英國BBC電台的歌唱節目所錄製的錄音作品，彙整成現場錄音特輯『Live At The BBC』發行，此一特輯登上英國金榜冠軍、晉升全美流行專輯榜第3名，6週銷售驚人突破500萬張。
2013年歲末，『On Air - Live At The BBC Volume 2』延續首輯口碑登場，彙整63軌的錄音作品或是與DJ的對話訪談片段，其中包含37首之前從未發行的現場演唱錄音作品、以及23段之前從未公開的披頭四成員與BBC電台主持人在錄音室的逗趣對話錄音，專輯中沒有任何一軌錄音與首輯重疊，獲得英國每日郵報5顆星、AllMusic與MOJO雜誌4顆星優質鑑賞。
